Pickaway County, OH—A three-vehicle collision resulted in the tragic death of a Washington Court House child and left several other victims injured. The crash, which occurred on an icy bridge on U.S. Route 62 in Pickaway County, happened around 5:22 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, according to information provided by NBC4.
Pickaway County officials reported a 1998 Chevy Malibu was headed eastbound on U.S. 62, when the unidentified driver lost control while traveling over an icy bridge.
A westbound 2001 Hyundai subsequently slammed into the Chevy’s rear driver side, causing it to spin around. An eastbound Dodge Caravan then slammed into both of the vehicles, just north of Ohio Route 56.
A 4-year-old boy, identified by the Circleville Herald as Christopher A. Cruz, was ejected from the Chevy on impact. His traumatic injuries proved fatal at the scene.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel rushed several others to Columbus-area hospitals for treatment. Deputies did not release the crash victims’ identities, nor did they disclose their conditions on transport.
Although investigations appeared to show the ice-covered bridge was to blame for the fatal Ohio crash, a full probe was expected to be underway.
