Washington, DC—A total of eight people were hospitalized, mostly as a safety precaution, after two Metro buses became involved in separate, yet bizarrely similar crashes Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010. According to information provided by the Washington Post, the first collision occurred during the morning rush hour, while the second happened during evening rush hour.
Reports indicated a Route 92 Metro bus was traveling in the direction of the Duke Ellington Bridge when it came to a stop and was subsequently rear-ended by a truck. The crash happened at Alabama Avenue and Good Hope Road.
The 8:20 a.m. collision left three passengers complaining of neck and back pain, though Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato said their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Around 6:20 p.m., just as the evening rush hour was coming to an end, a car slammed into the back of a second Metro bus. That bus was on the W4 route at the time and was headed toward the Anacostia end of the line when the wreck occurred.
Officials contended eight people were transported to area hospitals to be evaluated by doctors and nurses.
Both of the Metro bus accidents ironically happened within about a half-mile of each other. Authorities are expected to investigate the collisions. Reports did not specify whether any charges were filed.
