Lorain County, OH—A tragic head-on collision claimed the life of a husband and his pregnant wife, along with their 18-month-old daughter. The multiple-fatality accident, which involved a car and Lowe’s truck, occurred in Camden Township on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, as reported by WOIO.
According to police, a car occupied by the family members veered over the centerline of Baumhart Road and into the path of a Lowe’s truck Tuesday afternoon. Upon doing so, the car and truck collided head-on, killing Gar and Simone Cole on impact.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel attempted to perform a last-minute cesarean section to save the unborn baby, but to no avail. Simone was 8 1/2 months pregnant at the time.
Responders also rushed the couple’s young daughter Ryleigh to MetroHealth Medical Center, but her injuries proved fatal a few hours after her arrival.
Jeremy A. Hofecker, the 31-year-old driver of the Lowe’s truck, along with his 42-year-old passenger, Michael J. Dipietro, were rushed to Allen Memorial Hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries. They have since been released.
A fund was set up for the family at 5/3 Bank under the name “Cole Family.” Individuals who wish to donate to the fund may do so at any branch.
In the meantime, a probe into the deadly Ohio motor vehicle collision was expected to be underway. Investigators have not yet determined why the Cole’s car went left of center.
