San Mateo County, CA—A woman was tragically killed after she was involved in a collision with a big-rig while riding her bicycle on Alpine Road near the Portola Valley. The fatal traffic collision occurred on westbound Alpine Road near Interstate 280 at around 3:40 p.m., on Thursday, November 4, 2010, as reported by the San Jose Mercury News.
Police officials have identified the victim as Lauren Perdriau Ward, 47, of Los Altos Hills.
According to investigations, Ward was riding her pink trek bicycle on Alpine Road when she collided with the 26-wheel big rig. The big rig was apparently traveling in the far right lane of the road, when Ward hit the left side of the truck.
It is unknown if Ward veered her bike into the big rig or if the tractor-trailer drove into her. Officials are still looking for witnesses to the crash.
The driver of the big rig, a man in his 40s, stopped after the collision to talk with police officers. The truck belonged to Randazzo Enterprises.
Authorities are asking anyone that witnessed the crash to contact the California Highway Patrol at 650-369-6261.
Investigations are underway.
