Garza County, TX—An unfortunate helicopter crash Sunday, November 14, 2010 claimed one life and left another victim with critical injuries. The fatal aviation accident occurred in Garza County, Texas, approximately 13 miles east of Post, as reported by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
According to Cpl. John Gonzalez of the Lubbock-area Department of Public Safety office, emergency responders arrived at the scene of the helicopter crash scene, only to discover one person already dead and another in grave condition.
The critically injured victim was flown to a Lubbock hospital via AeroCare medical helicopter. His/her injuries were described as critical. Officials have yet to release the names of the two victims, who were the only people aboard the helicopter when it crashed.
Gonzalez said it was not clear how the helicopter wreck was reported to authorities, noting that the Garza County Sheriff’s Office forwarded requests for details concerning the accident to the DPS.
When asked, a Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport dispatcher alleged she didn’t know there had been a helicopter accident.
Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to conduct a full investigation into the Texas helicopter crash.
