Flushing, NY– A woman who threw a toddler off of a seventh-story balcony in a fit of rage on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, is being charged with second-degree murder. The woman tossed the innocent child from the terrace of her Leavitt St. home near 35th Avenue at around 8:30 p.m., as reported by New York Daily News.
Xiao Aiu Cai, 53, was reportedly arguing with her daughter inside the apartment, which the duo shared with the parents of 3-year-old Jerry Zhao.
Little Jerry was thrown and fell seven stories to the cement below, after Cai apparently mumbled something during her fit of rage.
Cai, who has a long history of depression and is on medication, tried to jump from the same balcony she threw Jerry off, but others stopped her in the apartment.
Jerry’s mother frantically ran downstairs to cradle her son, who had visible bleeding from the back of his head. A passerby tried to apply first aid to the toddler until emergency crews arrived.
Sadly, Jerry was pronounced dead after going into cardiac arrest at New York Hospital.
Cai is facing second-degree murder charges, which comes with 25-years to life in jail.
Jerry would have turned 4-years-old next week.
