Toledo, OH—A two-vehicle collision along Detroit Avenue early Thursday, Oct. 21, claimed three lives and left two others injured. The triple-fatality accident, which occurred around 2 a.m., involved a car and pickup truck, according to information provided by the Toledo Blade.
Toledo Police reported 21-year-old Noel Papenfuse was operating a Pontiac Grand Prix in the southbound lanes of North Detroit Ave just as a Chevy Silverado pickup truck pulled out of a parking lot.
Paul Never, the 68-year-old motorist behind the wheel of the pickup, was attempting to cross southbound Detroit and turn onto northbound Detroit at the time.
Unfortunately, Papenfuse’s vehicle slammed into the side of Never’s pickup truck, causing it to roll over. The impact also sent the Pontiac careening into a curb and a pole.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel rushed both drivers to Toledo-based Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.
Three passengers in the car, on the other hand, succumbed to their traumatic injuries at the scene. The fatally injured victims were identified as cousins Brian Richardson, 20, and Bradley Richardson Jr., 21, as well as passenger, Noah Papenfuse, 23.
While police seem to believe speed and alcohol might have contributed to the deadly collision, a full investigation will be required to confirm such suspicions.
