Pasadena, CA—A father is being held on a $10,000 bail after getting so drunk that he lost his SUV, which was carrying his 3-year-old son. Thankfully, the boy was found safe, some 25 hours after the father and son was last seen leaving a wedding on Saturday night, October 16, 2010, as reported by MSNBC.com.
Joe Kurihara, 23, and his son, Dylan, 3, reportedly left a wedding at a Pasadena Masonic lodge at about 9:30 p.m. About an hour later, Joe was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication. Joe was alone when he was arrested, and was too drunk to remember he had previously left the wedding with his son in the car.
On Sunday morning, the little boy’s mother alerted police of the missing father and son, which prompted a search for the duo. Police took Joe to the site of the wedding to help jog his memory, but it did not prove successful.
About 50 police officers, including several private citizens, began combing the area for about 14 hours until one man, identified as 39-year-old Rowdy Metzger, located the boy peacefully sleeping in the SUV; still strapped in his car seat in a parking garage.
The boy and the vehicle were only two blocks away from where Joe was arrested.
Pasadena police chief Phillip Sanchez said the boy “is in good shape and none the less for wear.”
Joe was being held on a $100,000 as of Sunday night.
Police are “looking into all possible charges that would be associated with this.”
