Plymouth County, MA—A two-vehicle collision left a Taunton man dead, when his vehicle slammed into an ambulance on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. The fatal automobile accident occurred on Route 106 in West Bridgewater, in front of 147 East Center St., just after 11 p.m., as reported by the Boston Herald.
According to police officials, the victim, Wayne Erickson, 59, veered his 2002 Dodge sedan over the center line and into oncoming traffic. In doing so, Erickson slammed into ambulance, which was transporting two emergency medical technicians and a nursing-home patient.
The two EMTs, the ambulance patient and Erickson were all rushed to Brockton Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Erickson was pronounced dead after arriving. The EMTs suffered minor injuries, and the patient was not severely injured.
Police officials have not said if speed or alcohol were contributing factors to the wreck. The cause of the fatal accident is still underway.
