White Lake, SD– A work-related accident at the PrairieWinds turbine project left one man dead, when he was crushed between a semi-truck trailer and a pickup truck. The fatal accident occurred on Friday, October 8, 2010 at around 1:36 p.m., in a pasture near 245th Street and 368th Avenue, just seven miles northeast of Kimball, as reported by the Daily Republic.

According to police officials, Stephen McAdams, 40, of Durango, Colo. was sanding next to the drivers side of a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck, as a semi-truck began to back up to unload rebar from its flatbed trailer. As McAdams was about to help unload the trailer, he somehow got caught between the trailer and pickup truck.

McAdams was run over by both dual tires of the trailer. The driver of the semi reportedly didn’t see McAdams.

McAdams died of massive abdominal injuries.

Wanzek Construction, the main contractor of the project, is working with local and state officials in the investigations. Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will also be investigating the accident.

The semi-truck driver is not currently facing any charges.

The Brule County Sheriff’s Office and Kimball Ambulance responded to the scene.
