Ames, IA—A pedestrian-related accident claimed the life of a 21-year-old Iowa State University student on Saturday, October 2, 2010. The fatal accident occurred around 10 p.m., while the student was crossing South 16th Street near Mulberry Boulevard, as reported by the Des Moines Register.

According to officials, Jonathan Arnold Brown, 21, was walking with two relatives, when he crossed South 16th Street between cars, who were stopped in heavy traffic in the eastbound lane. Brown was struck by an ISU senior, identified as Derek James Haskin, 22, as Brown walked into the westbound lane.

Brown was reportedly on his way to his car following the football game at the Jack Trice Stadium.

Brown was rushed to Des Moines hospital in critical condition for treatment of head and leg injuries.

Haskin was not speeding and alcohol was not a factor, stated police officers.
