Santa Ana, CA—A 94-year-old man was murdered for allegedly singing in Vietnamese, while sharing a room with another man, who apparently got so irate that he hit the man in the head with a metal rod, as reported by the Orange County Register
William Leo McDougall, 81, is now facing murder charges after killing his roommate, Manh Van Nguyen, at a Southern California rehabilitation center, where the two men were recovering from hip surgeries.
According to authorities, McDougall became angry at Nguyen for singing in Vietnamese in their shared room. McDougall reportedly hit Nguyen in the head several times with a metal rod from a closet inside their room. Nguyen was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died from injuries resulting from blunt-force trauma to the head.
McDougall is set to be arraigned Tuesday on a felony count of murder. If he is convicted, McDougall faces 25 years to life in state prison.
McDougall is currently being held at Orange County Jail on a $1 million bail.
