Buffalo, NY—A pedestrian was struck and killed by a school bus on Monday, October 4, 2010, while on his way to catch a Metro bus to work. The fatal accident occurred at around 6:55 a.m., at Erie Road (Route 5) and Revere in the Town of Evans, as reported by Buffalo News and WGRZ.

According to police officials, Ronald Wattie, 49, of Revere Drive was walking south, when he tried to cross Erie Road and was hit by a northbound school bus, which was tying to make a left turn from Revere Drive.

Wattie was reportedly pinned underneath the bus and dragged 30 to 40 feet. The bus driver apparently didn’t realize the bus hit someone until another motorist flagged down the bus.

Wattie was rushed to Lake Shore Community Hospital in Irving for treatment. Sadly, he was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

Evans Police Accident Investigation Unit is conducting a full investigation into the accident.

Wattie has reportedly served as volunteer firefighter with the community and Highland Hose Company for 31 years.
