Orlando, FL—A motorcyclist was listed in critical condition after becoming involved in a violent collision along Interstate 4. The accident, which involved a 2008 Dodge Avenger and 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle, occurred at approximately 10:41 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2010, according to information provided by the Orlando Sentinel.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports indicated 24-year-old Adrian Ibarra was operating his motorcycle in the westbound lanes of I-4 when a car slammed into the back of his bike as it approached the Championsgate Boulevard exit.
The impact caused Ibarra’s Kawasaki motorcycle to flip over as he was thrown onto the pavement.
While the driver of the car involved, identified as Elizabeth Fredrick, suffered minor injuries; Ibarra’s injuries were not as fortunate.
Emergency medical personnel reportedly rushed Ibarra was to Orlando Regional Medical Center where doctors listed him in critical condition.
FHP officials reported that charges were pending. However, it was not specified if an investigation had been completed as of yet.
According to information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) Encyclopedia, there were 5,312 motorcyclist fatalities reported throughout the U.S. in 2008. Of those fatalities, 556 were reported in the state of Florida alone.
