Stuart, FL—A three-vehicle crash resulted in the death of a young girl and left three other children with critical injuries Wednesday evening, September 29, 2010. An adult driver also sustained serious injuries in the Martin County accident, which occurred along the Atlantic Coast, according to information provided by the Associated Press.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports indicated an unidentified motorist was driving his/her car along the Atlantic Coast when another vehicle ran a red light. That vehicle subsequently slammed into the first car, which was also occupied by four children, sending it careening into a third car.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel were dispatched to the scene and rushed all four injured children, along with the driver of the car they were in, to area hospitals. While the victims’ injuries were withheld, the injuries of a young girl in the car sadly proved fatal at the medical center.
According to data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) Encyclopedia, there were 2,980 traffic fatalities reported in the state of Florida during the year 2008. Thirty of those causalities were reported in Martin County alone.
Investigations into the deadly Stuart motor vehicle crash are expected to be underway. No charges have been filed as of yet.
