Hudson, OH—Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled Bamboo Roll-up blinds with valance due to strangulation hazards they pose to children. The CPSC announced the product safety recall, which affects approximately 1,800 units, on Thursday, September 9, 2010.

While no injuries have been reported in connection with the product, the CPSC explained, “Strangulation can occur when the lifting loop slides off the side of the blind and a child’s neck becomes entangled on the free-standing loop, or if a child places his/her neck between the lifting loop and the roll-up blind material.”

All Bamboo Roll-up blinds with valances are affected by the defective product recall. The product was sold in the following sizes: 36”x72” and 48”x72”.

The risky blinds were made available for purchase between April 2009 and December 2009 at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores nationwide. The 36”x72” bamboo blinds cost $25 and the 48”x72” cost $30.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the product as a means of protecting children from the strangulation hazards. Consumers can then return their recalled Bamboo Roll-up blinds with valance to Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores to obtain a full reimbursement.

For additional information concerning the recall, consumers may contact Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores toll-free at (888) 739-4120 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, e-mail the company at [email protected], or visit the firm online at www.joann.com.
