Product Recall: FIXIT Rechargeable Spotlights Pose Burn Hazard

Foothill Ranch, CA—FIXIT One Million Candlepower Rechargeable Spotlights have been voluntarily recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Innovage LLC. The CPSC announced the recall on September 8, 2010; over burn hazards the spotlights pose.

About 1.4 million spotlights were recalled after discovering the its charging adapter can overcharge the battery, causing it to rupture and leak batter acid, which poses a chemical burn to consumers.

The CPSC press release stated, “This recall involves the One Million Candlepower Spotlight, a rechargeable halogen light. The handheld spotlight is made of yellow plastic and has a black label that reads, ‘FIXIT Tools UP TO 1,000,000 CANDLE POWER’ or ‘FIXIT Rechargeable Spotlight.’ The spotlight is sold with an AC power charger and a 12-volt car utility adapter.”

The recalled spotlights were sold at Walgreens, Rite Aid, Bealls, Tuesday Morning, Ace Hardware, Boscov’s and Winn-Dixie stores across the United States. The product was sold from October 2003 through October 2009 for about $10.

Consumers are advised to contact Innovage to receive a full refund. Consumers are also asked to return the product, via a provided box or enveloped that is self-addressed and stamped. For more information about returning the product, please visit www.spotlightrecall.com.
