Kansas City, KS—A forklift operator was killed on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, when the heavy piece of machinery fell of the dock at the Bannister Federal Complex. The fatal work-related accident occurred around 11:15 a.m., at the former National Archives facility, as reported by the Kansas City Star.
Kansas City police said hat the forklift operator, a 45-year-old man, apparently got too close to the edge of the 3 1/2–foot high dock, and went over. The forklift then fell onto the operator, leaving him with a broken neck.
The identity of the operator or the name of the company that the man worked for were not disclosed. The operator was apparently a subcontractor for the archives.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the work-related accident. The Federal Protective Service and the Kansas City police are investigating the accident as well.
