Wright County MN Aviation Accident: 2 Dead After Clearwater Twp. Plane Crash

Wright County, MN—An experimental plane crashed in a Sunday, August 22, 2010, killing a pilot and passenger on impact. The two-seat aircraft went down in a Clearwater Township swamp, according to information provided by the SCTimes.com.

Darci Dvorak, who resides in close proximity to the crash scene, alleged she noticed a plane performing aerobic stunts just after noon Sunday. After some time, Dvorak contended she heard the plane’s engine stop, though she did not see the plane go down.

Officials from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the plane crash around 12:40 p.m. and subsequently responded to a marshy area in the 13500 block of Wright County Road 7 NW. Upon arriving at the crash scene, emergency crews discovered the downed plane and its two occupants.

A 32-year-old pilot from Becker, along with a 34-year-old passenger from Maple Lake, suffered fatal injuries in the aviation accident. Authorities pronounced the victims dead at the scene and withheld their identities pending the notification of next of kin.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s Web site, the fixed-wing single-engine aircraft was registered to Brett E. Johnson of Becker.

FAA spokesperson Elizabeth Isham Cory also stated the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct a full probe into the fatal Wright County plane crash.

Investigations are underway.
