Columbia County, FL—A Columbia County two-vehicle crash resulted in one fatality and left three others with severe injuries Wednesday morning, August 18, 2010. One of the injured victims, a 10-month-old baby, was listed in critical condition after the wreck occurred, according to information provided by News 4 Jax.
Reports stated a 55-year-old Fort Lauderdale man was driving his Jeep sport utility vehicle westbound on County Road 131 when something went wrong as he drove through the intersection at County Road 240.
For unknown reasons, the Jeep SUV veered into the path of another car around 10:35 a.m. The impact sent the SUV careening off the road where it struck a fence and flipped over. The unidentified Jeep driver was ejected and killed as a result.
The car, on the other hand, swerved into a power pole. Dennis Register, 24, was driving the car at the time. Krystal Wood, 20, and the infant, Gavin Register, were riding in the car as well.
Emergency medical services (EMS) subsequently rushed the three injured auto accident victims to Gainesville-based Shands Hospital for treatment. The baby’s wounds were described as critical, while the adults in the vehicle suffered serious injuries.
Authorities from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are expected to conduct a full probe into the fatal motor vehicle collision (MVC).
