Janesville, WI—A motorcyclist suffered critical injuries in a Tuesday night, August 17, 2010 motorcycle wreck. The horrifying accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. and involved an off-road dirt bike and another vehicle, according to information provided by the GazetteXtra.com.
Reports indicated 38-year-old Richard L. Vance was traveling southbound on Garfield Avenue when he lost control of his motorcycle for unknown reasons.
Upon doing so, the dirt bike slammed into the back of a car that was stopped at the intersection of East Court and South Garfield Avenue. The impact ejected Vance from the bike, leaving him with serious head wounds.
Officials from the Janesville Police Department, as well as Janesville Fire Department personnel, were dispatched to the scene after the injurious motorcycle accident occurred.
Vance was subsequently rushed to Mercy Hospital via fire department ambulance. Given that Vance was not wearing a helmet at the time, he suffered severe head trauma in the crash. It was not specified if he suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI), specifically.
It took police until Wednesday morning to identify Vance, who did not have an I.D. when the accident happened. Reports noted his dirt bike also lacked a license plate.
A hospital spokesperson also alleged he remained hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday morning.
Police are continuing their investigation into the Janesville motorcycle crash.
