Lakeland, Fl (Lakeland Auto Accident Attorney News)—A Sunday evening, June 20, 2010 two-vehicle crash left two Polk County residents dead after being ejected from their vehicle. The fatal accident occurred around 5 p.m., on State Road 471 in Sumter County, just north of Polk County, as reported by ABC Action News.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported a 2000 Jeep SUV was traveling southbound on S.R. 471, when it suddenly veered off the side of the road and onto the shoulder. The driver, Kodi Chamberlin, 23, of Lakeland, then overcorrected and drove into the northbound lane, where the SUV collided with a 2007 GMC pickup truck. The front end of the truck hit the side of the SUV. The impact of the crash ejected both of the occupants of the SUV.
Chamberlin and her passenger, Roger Higby, 45, of Bartow were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither Chamberlin nor Higby were wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.
The driver of the pickup truck Floyd Sloan, 73, and passenger Caron Sloan, 70, of Bartow were rushed to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting a full investigation into the fatal two-vehicle wreck.
