Lansing, MI—Big Fireworks, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled Super Lightning Rockets due to burn hazards associated with them. The CPSC announced the defective product recall on Tuesday, June 29, 2010.

While the Lansing-based distributor has yet to receive any reports of injuries or adverse events in connection with the recalled Super Lightning Rockets, Big Fireworks issued the recall to prevent such incidents from occurring altogether. Approximately 4,700 units are affected by the product safety recall.

Reports indicated the rockets were loaded with too much pyrotechnic composition, which is a violation of the federal regulatory standard for this product and those similar to it. The excessive pyrotechnic composition could cause a more powerful explosion, consequently leaving consumers at an increased risk of burns and other bodily injuries.

According to the CPSC, “This recall involves stick-type rockets with 1 1/2-inch in diameter engine that is mounted on 32-inch wood stick. The engine is wrapped in black paper with a background of solar system and the writing ‘Super Rocket,’ in assorted colors. The rockets were sold in packs of four, and have item number GCR3150 printed on the front of the package and on the rocket engine.”

The Super Lightning Rockets were made available for purchase at fireworks stands and stores in the following states: Florida, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Michigan. There were manufactured in China and sold from November 2009 through June 2010. The Super Lightning Rockets cost about $20.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the potentially hazardous fireworks and contact Big Fireworks to learn how to obtain a full reimbursement. Big Fireworks can be contacted toll-free at (866) 514-6225 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. Consumers may also feel free to visit the company’s Web site at www.bigfireworks.com for more information.
