Sturtevant, WI—BRP US Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled approximately 37 BRP Ski-Doo® Snowmobiles. The CPSC announced the defective product recall on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, due to a fire hazard the snowmobiles may pose to consumers.
The flawed snowmobiles were manufactured by BRP Finland Oy of Finland and distributed to Ski-Doo dealerships throughout the nation.
According to the CPSC, “Friction between the fuel hose and the electronic control unit can cause the fuel hose to wear and leak fuel, posing a fire hazard… BRP has received six reports of fuel leaks, three of which resulted in vehicle fires. One of the incidents involved a rider suffering superficial burns.”
Ski-Doo snowmobiles affected by the product safety recall included model year 2010 Expedition TUV 1200 and model year 2010 Expedition SE 1200. The model year and name were printed on each side of the snowmobile.
Ski-Doo snowmobiles affected by the consumer safety recall were made available for purchase from March 2009 through April 2010. Prices ranged from $8,000 to $9,000.
Consumers have been urged to cease use of the potentially dangerous snowmobiles immediately and contact their local Ski-Doo snowmobile dealer to have them repaired. The company also reportedly contacted all registered owners via mail.
BRP may be reached at (800) 366-6992 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET for additional information concerning the product recall. Consumers may also visit the company’s Web site at www.BRP.com.
