Las Vegas, NV—Tourists who were expecting to take a trip to Hollywood, got quite the ride and maybe more then they bargained for when their tour bus collided in the intersection of Tropicana and Interstate 15 interchange. The Tuesday morning, June 1, 2010, crash injured a total of five people around 6:30 a.m., as reported by the Las Vegas Sun.
The Nevada Highway Patrol stated, the westbound tour bus and an eastbound passenger car slammed into one another in the middle of the intersection. The tour bus was reportedly turning onto the southbound I-15 on ramp when the collision occurred.
Officials say that one driver ran a red light as the front end of the car hit the right front corner of the bus in the intersection. The bus continued through the intersection where it struck a utility pole.
There were no witnesses who weren’t affiliated with the wreck, so officers are not sure who actually ran the light.
The tour bus driver and four passengers on the bus were injured in the wreck. They were all taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries that were described as “not serious.” The bus was reportedly carrying 10 foreigners at the time.
The driver of the car was uninjured in the accident.
The tour bus was apparently leaving Las Vegas and was on its way to Hollywood, California for a day trip.
A full investigation into the accident is currently underway.
