Chicago, IL—The Bucktown resident that was run over and dragged by a taxi sadly succumbed to his injuries Saturday, May 22, 2010. Police continue to search for the cabdriver involved in the horrific hit-and-run accident, according to information provided by the Chicago Sun-Times and previous reports by Justice News Flash.
Reports stated 32-year-old Dan Firkins attempted to summon a taxi at approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010. Upon doing so, he allegedly became involved in a quarrel with the cabdriver. When Firkins leaned through the taxi window, the cabdriver abruptly accelerated, hauling Firkins along for the violent ride.
The driver of a white cab with blue stripes was reportedly responsible for dragging Firkins down the 1600 block of North Honore. The cabdriver subsequently fled the scene.
Firkins was an MBA student at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He sustained severe injuries, including two skull fractures and traumatic brain injury (TBI), in the incident. He was hospitalized at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for eight days. Firkins was pronounced dead at 4:58 p.m. Saturday.
David Firkins, Dan’s father, urged any witnesses who may be able to help identify the hit-and-run driver to come forward. “This man has destroyed my son’s life—he has murdered my son,” Firkins added. Individuals with any information regarding the incident may contact police at (312) 745-4521.
