Houston, TX—A violent crash killed a Houston police officer who was rushing to assist another officer. The HPD officer slammed into a guard rail on the north Freeway feeder road near Troy Road at around 1:30 pm., May 18, 2010, as reported by Click2Houston.com.

Officer Eydelmen Mani, 30, was reportedly en route to assist another officer with a traffic stop involving a stolen car when the wreck occurred. Accident investigators said that Mani’s car flipped, but managed to land upright.

Responding rescue teams had to use the Jaws of Life in order to extract Mani from the heavily damaged vehicle.

Witness Edward Martinez stated, “You could see the officer’s legs kind of coming out through the passenger’s window.’”

Officials said Mani was conscious while at the scene, but had to be revived at Memorial Hermann Hospital. While at the hospital, Mani sadly passed away.

A full investigation into the wreck, including how fast Mani was driving, is underway.

Mani leaves behind a loving wife and a beautiful child.

The driver of the stolen car was arrested.
