Comal County, TX—A single-engine plane crashed during a test flight on Monday, May 17, 2010. The small aviation accident happened in Comal County, Texas and left the two San Antonio men injured, as reported by MySanAntonio.com.
According to information provided, 75-year-old aircraft mechanic Arthur Rubey was piloting a 1967 Cessna when something went wrong. The plane departed from Kestrel Airpark prior to 6:30 p.m. and almost immediately experienced engine failure.
Though Rubey notified the airport of the mechanical issues, he had to act quickly. Rubey allegedly called in Mayday as the plane began its decent. The small aircraft crash-landed at a ranch located in close proximity to Spring Branch Road and Texas State Highway 46 (SH46). According to Tommy Ward of the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, the crash site is approximately two miles away from the airpark.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel were seemingly dispatched to the scene to transport those injured to area hospitals. Rubey, a licensed commercial pilot, along with his 63-year-old passenger Robert O’Conner, suffered injuries.
They were both taken to University Hospital where they remained hospitalized as of Tuesday morning. A hospital spokesperson allegedly noted the two plane crash victims were listed in stable condition.
Authorities from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Texas Department of Public Safety (TX DPS) are expected to conduct a full probe into the injurious aviation accident.
