San Bruno, CA (Bay Area injury lawyer report)—A pedestrian from Menlo Park, California became involved in a tragic and fatal collision with an express commuter train near the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) San Bruno Caltrain Station on Friday morning, April 2, 2010. The fatal pedestrian-involved train accident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. in San Bruno, California, as a Caltrain Northbound 305 express train was en route to San Francisco. Caltrain spokesperson Christine Dunn noted the locomotive had been traveling approximately 72 mph when it fatally struck the pedestrian, also adding,  “All of the gates and lights and bells were working correctly at the time,” according to information provided by KTVU.com and the Mercury News.

Reports stated 52-year-old Jon David Armstrong went under the railroad arms at the pedestrian crossing, located at 481 Huntington Avenue on the north end of the San Bruno Station, but failed to make it across the train tracks in time. The northbound Caltrain struck the pedestrian, causing the man to suffer severe injuries, to which he succumbed at the scene of the train-related accident. There were 185 people, including train crewmembers and passengers, occupying the northbound locomotive when it struck the pedestrian. Armstrong was allegedly involved in a pending elder abuse case before his death, seemingly prompting investigators to question whether the train/pedestrian collision occurred by accident or if suicidal intentions could have been a possible factor in the incident. Transportation authorities and Caltrain officials were expected to conduct a full investigation into the fatal San Bruno train-pedestrian accident.
