Lenoir, NC—Hammary Furniture Co., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov has announced the voluntary recall of approximately 7,000 decorative wood chests and tables because they exceed the federal limit for lead paint. The CPSC announced the product safety recall on Wednesday, April 7, 2010.
According to the CPSC, “The surface coating paint on the furniture could contain excessive levels of lead in violation of the federal lead paint standard.” No injuries or advert events have been reported to Hammary Furniture with regard to the recently recalled wood chests and tables.

The recalled decorative wood chests and tables were manufactured in the Philippines, China and Vietnam. All furniture manufactured before April 2009 reportedly lacks a label including the manufacture date, model number, country of origin or a product description. Consumers who purchased products before April 2009 were urged to visit the firm’s Web site www.regcen.com/hammaryrecall to find out if they are in possession of a chest or table affected by the product safety recall.
The decorative furniture was sold in major department and furniture retail stores between November 2001 and November 2009. Prices ranged from $200 to $900. Consumers should stop using the recalled chests and tables and contact Hammary toll-free at (888) 577-4098 or online at the Hammary Furniture’s Web site to receive a complimentary replacement product.
