The Minnesota State Patrol is trying to find that driver that left a mattress in the middle of Interstate 94, which left a motorcyclist in critical condition.
St. Paul, MN—A Woodbury man was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting a mattress that was laying on Interstate 94 in St. Paul. The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition following the 6:00 p.m. accident, on eastbound I-94 at Western Avenue, as reported by the Star-Tribune.
The Minnesota State Patrol stated that the mattress, which was left or lost by another motorist, was lying in the left-hand lane. A 2007 Ford Explorer that was traveling in front of the motorcyclist, Steven J. Konard, 46, managed to swerve out of the way before hitting it. Konard, who was riding on a 2004 Yamaha, couldn’t avoid the mattress and subsequently hit it. Emergency rescue teams rushed to the scene and transported Konard to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment of his serious injuries. The State Patrol stated that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Police officials are currently still trying to locate the driver of the vehicle that the mattress fell off of. A full investigation is currently underway. Officials will decide if charges will be pressed once they find the driver of the vehicle that lost the piece of bedding.
