Highlands County, FL—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a motorcycle and a car caused injuries ranging from minor to serious. The accident occurred on Saturday night, March 13, 2010 on Hammock Road in Highlands County, Florida, according to information provided by the Highlands Today.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers reported a 2001 Chrysler attempting to make a turn onto Jacklin Avenue from eastbound Hammock Road when the collision occurred. Kayla Elenia Flores, the 18-year-old driver of the Chrysler, reportedly cut off the motorcycle, ridden by 47-year-old John Solebello, also traveling east on the roadway, in an attempt to make the seemingly last minute left turn. Upon doing so, the motorcycle struck the vehicle, causing him to be ejected from the bike and onto the shoulder of the roadway.
Emergency medical services (EMS) crews responded to the scene to transport Solebello to Tampa General Hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses. According to reports, the injured motorcycle crash victim remained in serious condition at the medical center as of Monday, March 15, 2010. Flores suffered minor injuries in the wreck and was subsequently transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center for treatment. A 1-year-old, identified as Jaymian Colon, was a passenger in the Chrysler, though luckily, he escaped uninjured. It was not stated whether any citations were issued with regards to the crash. Both of the vehicles occupants were wearing seat belts, while the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet during the collision. Investigations continue.
