Product liability lawyers alert- Homemade Gourmet recalls Tortilla Soup Mix over Salmonella.

Canton, TX—Due to a Salmonella threat, Homemade Gourmet and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) http://www.fda.gov/ are recalling 320 packages of 1.96 Tortilla Soup Mix. The FDA made the recall announcement on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.

The recalled Tortilla Soup Mix was sold across the nation through mail order delivery and independent consultant sales. The lots involved in this recall include S1004812411 and S1004912111, which were sold from February 17, 2010 through March 1, 2010. The known purchasers of this product have been contacted about the recall and told to destroy the soup mix. The Tortilla Soup Mix was sold in clear plastic packages with a red and beige label. They were sold on an individual basis in a 1.96 oz (55.6 g) pouch, which was included in the “Let’s Make Dinner Collection (stock #40.1032) or the “$800 pre-select” order for consultants (stock #37.0320). A full refund will be given to every customer and consultant. The recall was initiated after discovering that the soup mix was made using Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP), manufactured by Basic Food Flavors, Inc., Las Vegas, Nevada, which has tested positive for Salmonella at its original manufacturing plant. So far no illnesses associated with the soup mix have been reported.
