Motor Vehicle Accident: Avon Park FL police deputy critically injured in crash

Winter Haven, FL (News)—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a car left three people injured on Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Two of the victims’ injured in the two-vehicle crash were reported to be Avon Park Police Department deputies, according to information provided by ABCActionNews.com.

Reports state a westbound Mazda Miata, driven by Bernice Nacrelli, 58, was traveling on Cypress Gardens Boulevard at the same time as a Jeep, driven by Avon Park Police Sgt. Jacob Bratten, 35, was headed east on the roadway. Nacrelli allegedly attempted to make a left turn onto Lake Ruby Drive when the two vehicles collided. On impact, Bratten was ejected from his Jeep. Bratten and a passenger in his vehicle, identified as Officer Lawrence Shnider, 41, were reportedly on their way to work when the incident occurred.

Emergency medical services (EMS) crews seemingly responded to the scene to transport those injured in the motor vehicle accident to hospitals to be treated by doctors and nurses. Nacrelli suffered minor injuries in the wreck and was transported to Winter Haven Hospital. Bratten reportedly had to be flown to Lakeland Regional Medical Center via medical helicopter. He was allegedly listed in critical condition after suffering severe injuries in the accident. Shnider was taken to Winter Haven Hospital after sustaining a leg injury. It is unknown if any citations were issued in correlation with the accident. Investigations are expected to be underway.
