Marion County, OH—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a small SUV and a tractor-trailer resulted in the death of a Marion man on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. The crash occurred on Ohio State Route 4, according to information provided by MarionStar.com.
The Marion post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) allegedly reported a Honda CRV, driven by 70-year-old Darryl G. Rice, traveling south on Ohio 4 between Owens Road and Hughes Road, when the incident occurred. Rice allegedly veered left of center, consequently colliding with a northbound tractor-trailer. Rolado L. Stroud, 59, was driving the 1997 Freightliner at the time. The Marion County assistant coroner reportedly pronounced Rice dead at the scene of the violent collision. Stroud was allegedly unharmed in the in the wreck. Both drivers were reported wearing their seat belts. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Pleasant Township Fire Department and Marion County EMA seemingly responded to the scene to assist in accident investigations and clean up. It is currently unknown why the man careened into oncoming traffic since witnesses allegedly reported “There was nothing in the road for him to be swerving around.”
It was reported that this particular incident was the third serious motor vehicle accident the Marion County post of the OSHP has investigated in the last week. A pregnant woman from Marion, identified as Sarah Gannon, was fatally injured in an Ohio 432 crash. Another wreck in which a car struck a tree subsequently left a Galion man, identified as Joshua Brown, injured. Grant Medical Center personnel allegedly listed him in fair condition on Thursday.
