Florida automobile accident lawyer alerts- Police officer suffered fatal injuries in crash.
Polk County, FL—A veteran officer from the Lakeland Police Department became involved in a motor vehicle collision (MVC) on Monday afternoon, January 18, 2010, subsequently killing him, according to HighlandsToday.com. The fatal incident reportedly occurred on Florida State Road 25 (SR 25).
A 23-year-old motorist, identified as Federico Vasquez, was reported nearly involved in a crash with a 1989 Ford station wagon while traveling south on SR 25. In an attempt to avoid a wreck with the vehicle, Vasquez subsequently careened into oncoming traffic. Upon doing so, the 2006 Pontiac Sedan he was driving was struck a 2008 Ford Explorer on the driver’s side. The driver of the Ford was identified as 56-year-old Lakeland Police Officer Charles Dallas. Dallas, who was reported not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the violent collision, was ejected from his vehicle.
The deputies’ injuries allegedly proved fatal at the scene of the two-vehicle crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). A 33-year-old passenger who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, identified as Karyn Spencer, allegedly only sustained minor injuries in the automobile accident. Both of the Sedan’s occupants, including Vasquez and a passenger, 23-year-old Katie Boyette, suffered injury in the wreck. They were also both reported wearing safety belts. It was not stated whether emergency medical services (EMS) crews transported Spencer to a hospital for the treatment of her minor injuries. Investigations are underway and no one has been charged in the fatal collision as of yet.
