Cobb, GA—A motorcyclist was tragically killed in a traffic accident on Monday evening in Cobb, Georgia. Officials from the Marietta Police Department reported that the fatal incident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m., according to information provided by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

A 33-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Kevin Silvis, was reported traveling westbound on Delk Road when he lost control of his motorcycle for unknown reasons. He was subsequently ejected from the bike, facing oncoming traffic. Simultaneously, an Chevrolet Impala, which was being driven by 20-year-old Jerlisa Taylor at the time, attempted to make a left turn off of Delk Road and struck the motorcyclist.

The severely injured man was transported to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta by responding emergency medical services (EMS) crews. Unfortunately, the motorcyclists injures proved fatal upon his arrival at the medical center. Marietta Police deputies allegedly reported that Taylor did not suffer and injuries in the wreck. Motorcycle accident investigations are underway.

According to the Georgia Accident Reporting Crash Data and Fatality Analysis Reporting System, there were 2,851 total reported motorcycle crashes in 2003, with 2,123 resulting in injury and 101 resulting in death. Motorcycle crashes also caused seven percent of Georgia’s total reported traffic fatalities that year.
