Austin, TX-A Friday morning, January 15, 2010 school bus collision in South Austin hospitalized a mother and her infant child. Highly regarded automobile accident lawyer, Amy K. Witherite, reports the crash occurred around 7:15 a.m., just a block away from Casey Elementary School, as reported by KVUE.com, an ABC affiliate.
According to police officials and witnesses, a school bus was making a left turn from Slaughter Lane onto Texas Oaks Drive, at the same time as a small Kia was traveling westbound on Slaughter Lane. The school bus and the Kia collided in the intersection as a result. Witnesses to the wreck reported that the Kia had a green light when the two vehicles collided. The impact of the collision was so forceful that it pushed the entire front end of the car underneath the bus. The 26 students who were on the AISD school bus at the time were not injured in the collision. Paramedics extracted the driver of the Kia, a 21-year-old female, from the wreckage after 30 minutes of cutting at the twisted metal. She was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, and her infant child was taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries were described as “potentially critical but not life threatening.” Police officials are conducting a full investigation into the two-vehicle crash. At this time no citations have been issued in connection with the crash.
