Dump truck lands on top of pickup truck after motor vehicle collision, two injured.
Panama City Beach, FL—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) in Panama City Beach, involving a dump truck and a pickup truck, left both drivers injured, as reported by the News Herald. The accident allegedly occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday December 20, 2009. The incident began with a Kia Sedan, driven by Robert Chambers, 77, who was making a right turn into the eastbound lanes of the Back Beach Road from Grace Episcopal Church. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver had the intention of merging left to make a U-turn into the westbound lanes of the highway. An oncoming Dodge pickup truck driven by Catherine Kelly, 48, was traveling east in the same lane as the turning Sedan, causing the Dodge driver to swerve to the left to avoid hitting the Sedan, subsequently striking a dump truck driving in the left lane. The pickup and the dump truck allegedly veered into the grass median where the dump truck turned onto its right side, landing on top of the Dodge.
Emergency medical services (EMS) crews transported Kelly and the dump truck driver, Damien Jones, 25, to Bay Medical Center in Panama City, to be treated for their injuries by doctors and nurses. Kelly allegedly suffered serious injuries, but was released from the hospital on Sunday afternoon. Jones sustained minor injuries in the wreck but was treated and released on the same day as well. According to FHP accident reports, both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Damages to the vehicles involved in the crash were listed as $18,000 for the Dodge Pickup and $5,000 for the dump truck. Charges will be reportedly be filed pending further investigation.
