Minneapolis, MN—A two-vehicle head-on collision left a young girl, her aunt, and her grandmother dead on Saturday night, December 12, 2009. A teenager’s pick-up truck slammed into the family’s sedan along County Road 50 (Kenwood Trail), just west of Ipava Avenue, as reported by TwinCities.com.
According to Lakeview Police officials, Shirley Ann Iverson, 71, the grandmother of 8-year-old Lexis “Lexi” Rose Iverson; and Lexi’s Aunt, Debra Ann Buhmann, 34, all of Lakeville, were all tragically killed in the horrific crash. Preliminary reports stated the 17-year-old Dundas resident, veered over the centerline of County Road 50 as he was traveling westbound, when he slammed head-on into the family’s eastbound sedan. Rescue teams pronounced all three family members dead at the scene. The teen was airlifted by emergency medical services (EMS) teams to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis for treatment of his “significant injuries.” Officials are currently withholding his identity. Witnesses stated the truck was traveling without its headlights on at the time of the crash. It was not clear why the boy crossed the centerline and hit the car. Officials do not believe alcohol was a factor in the fatal wreck. A thorough investigation continues.
