California automobile accident Palm Springs, CA school bus crash-8 students injured

Palm Springs, CA—A school bus crash sent eight students to the hospital after an Oldsmobile apparently cut off the bus. The bus was headed to Katherine Finchy Elementary School at 777 Tachevah Drive around 8:15 a.m., when the crash occurred, as reported by The Desert Sun.

An 80-year-old Desert Hot Springs resident was driving a 1996 Oldsmobile, when according to witnesses, he cut off the school bus. Seven students aboard the bus were rushed to the hospital by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews for treatment of their injuries. Another student was later transported by their parent to the hospital for an evaluation by doctors and nurses. Palm Springs Fire Department officials reported none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening. The injuries were described as mostly bumps and bruises.

The driver of the Oldsmobile was reportedly seriously injured, and was transported by EMS crews to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment of his injuries. His condition is currently unknown. The rest of the uninjured students were transferred to another bus to be transported the rest of the way to school. The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash. No one at this time has been charged for the wreck.
