California personal injury attorney alerts- David Sumner collapsed during football practice in Simi Valley.

Simi Valley, CA—For unknown reasons, a 10-year-old boy collapsed during youth football practice and later died. The boy collapsed on Thursday night, October 8, 2009 at the Apollo Field, as reported by KTLA.

The football player, David Sumner, 10, was running drills during football practice with his youth football team, the Simi Valley Vikings. It is unknown what exactly caused the boy to collapse. Sumner was rushed to a local hospital by emergency medical services (EMS) crews for treatment. On Friday, Sumner had surgery to relieve the swelling on his brain. Unfortunately, doctors and nurses could not save the boy; he was declared brain dead and was taken off of life support. Sumner’s parents decided to donate their son’s organs, and are awaiting the autopsy report. Since David was 5-years-old, he reportedly played with the Simi Valley Vikings youth football program.

The youth football organization released a statement saying, “The Viking Organization is doing everything it can do. Our thoughts and prayers go to the family of David Sumner. During this most tragic time the Board of Directors is taking the necessary steps to ensure the sentiments and wishes of the family are met.” An account was opened for the benefit of Sumner’s family. If anyone wishes to donate the family of the young football player who tragically lost his life, you can donate to the “Memorial Fund for David Sumner” at Account #0102770088 of Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, P.O.
