Decatur, IL–An Illinois jury returned a $6.74 million verdict to the family of a man killed in a construction accident while working at one of Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) facilities in Decatur, Illinois. As reported by nbc news affiliate KWQC 6, Francisco Moreno Garcia, a 26 year-old man who worked for a St. Louis company that was insulating pipes in March of 2007 at one of ADM’s Decatur facilities died after he was injured in an accident.
Archer Daniel Midland Company is a conglomerate based in Decatur, Illinois and operates over 270 plants worldwide processing grains and oilseeds. The processed cereal grains and oilseeds are used to make food, beverage, nutraceutical, industrial and animal feeds all over the world according to Wikipedia http://www.wikipedia.org. A processing machine at the ADM facility where Garcia was working on that fateful day malfunctioned and sprayed him with steam and hot liquid. The Illinois jury returned the verdict on Friday, September 11, 2009 to the parents and siblings of Garcia. Garcia died the day after he suffered burns over 90 percent of his body from the malfunctioning equipment at ADM.
