Williamsburg, VA—A tragic construction accident killed a 34-year-old worker when he was run over by a bulldozer driven by another co-worker. The workplace accident occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2009 shortly before 11 a.m. in Newport News, as reported by the Daily Press.

The construction worker, Kirk Patrick Giezey, 34, of Hampton, was reportedly riding in the front scoop bucket of the bulldozer, which was being operated by another worker at a jobsite on Eastwood Drive, where they are clearing a new road. Giezey apparently was run over by the front-end loader at some point during his joy ride, and was fatally injured. The construction worker was pronounced dead by responding Newport News area emergency medical services (EMS) professionals at the scene of the accident. It is unknown how the worker fell out of the scoop of the bulldozer or how he was run over. The construction worker is reportedly an employee for E.W. Muller Contractors.

Officials with the Newport Police, state police, and the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry http://www.doli.virginia.gov/ all responded to the scene of the workplace accident . Officials with the U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) http:///www.osha.gov/ will be conducting a full investigation into the accident.
