Florida accident attorney’s alert- A blown tire causes a motor vehicle crash on interstate 75 which ejected a girl over I-75 overpass railings.

Tampa, FL—A blown tire is to blame for a fatal accident that ejected a girl out of an SUV window, over an overpass railings, and plummeted 26 feet onto the pavement of U.S. 301 below. The horrific accident occurred on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, as reported by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a SUV traveling northbound on Interstate 75 crashed when the tread on the rear tire blew out, causing the SUV to spin out-of-control. The SUV then slammed into a concrete barrier. The impact of the crash ejected Amarilis Cardona, 12, of Cape Coral, who was sleeping in the third row seats of the SUV without a seatbelt on. The girl was thrown out of the side window of the SUV, over the I-75 overpass railings, and plummeted 26 feet onto the busy U.S. 301 roadway. Cardona landed on U.S. 301 in front of a moving tractor-trailer, but the driver of the big rig was able to stop in time before running the girl over. The driver of the big rig then maneuvered the truck across the northbound lanes to prevent other motorists from hitting her. The critically injured girl was airlifted by an emergency medical helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg for treatment. The driver of the SUV was identified as, Daniel J. Garcia, 29, of Cape Coral, who is reportedly the stepfather of Cardona. The additional passengers of the SUV were identified as, Rita M. Sanchez, 28; Margarita Caldas, 22; and Edwin Cruz, 7. Sanchez and Caldas sustained injuries in the wreck and were transported by emergency medical services (EMS) crews to an area hospital for treatment. Garcia and Edwin were reportedly uninjured in the crash. The FHP is currently conducting a full motor vehicle crash investigation.
