Iowa construction accident lawyer alert- an Iowa worker was tragically killed in a construction accident caused by a utility pole.
Des Moines, IA—A tragic construction accident left a father of two dead on Wednesday, July 29, 2009. The accident occurred at 4008 Southwest 26th street around 10:00 a.m., as reported by the Des Moines Register.
The father of two, Andrew Russell Clarke, 32, of Des Moines, was killed after being struck by a falling utility pole. According to police, a co-worker identified as Paul Maple, 57, of Johnston backed into the utility pole with a bobcat while working on a residential sidewalk. The bobcat bumped into and knocked down the utility pole, which fell towards a parked truck in the street. Accident investigators believe Clarke was reaching for something inside the truck when he was fatally hit. Clarke was transported by fire department medics to the Iowa Methodist Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Clarke was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. It is unknown why the pole fell so easily when the bobcat bumped into it. Maple stated to police officials that Clarke was his daughter’s boyfriend. There were no electrical lines on the pole when it collapsed.
When investigators contacted the MidAmerican Energy Co., about the fallen pole, they stated they did not own it. MidAmerican apparently rents the utility poles from Mediacom.
