Rome, GA—The Rome News-Tribune reported a three-vehicle wreck in Shannon left at least one woman injured. The accident occurred on Calhoun Road on Monday, July 20, 2009 at around 4:30 p.m.
According to the Floyd County Police Department, Anna Reeps, 18, of Rome was driving a burgundy Toyota Scion sedan on Calhoun road when she crashed into Stephanie Blankenship, 43, of Rome who was driving a silver Honda minivan. The impact of the two motor vehicles sent them both careening into a silver Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Joyce Phillips, 59, of Cedar Bluff, Alabama. Phillips was reportedly on East Hermitage Road, turning onto Calhoun Road when she was violently struck. Police officials stated the collision severely damaged the Pontiac’s driver side door, which took firefighters several minutes to complete the rescue. She was reportedly conscious when rescue crews and firefighters released her from her motor vehicle.
Floyd police officials stated Phillps was transported by area emergency medical service (EMS) crews to Floyd Medical Center for treatment of her injuries sustained in the accident. It is unknown if the drivers of the minivan and Scion were injured. Floyd County Police Department is still conducting an investigation of the accident to determine if any charges will be filed.
