California SUV accident causes rollover killing driver and 2 passengers.

LeGrand, CA–A three-car automobile accident killed three people on Saturday night. According to the Merced Sun-Star, the motor vehicle collision (MVC) took place on southbound Highway 99, close to Le Grand just south of Worden Avenue, in Merced County, California. California Highway Patrol (CHP) state troopers say the three-car crash happened at approximately 8:35 p.m. A 2000 Nissan Xterra SUV was traveling on northbound Highway 99’s leftmost lane when the driver, 42 year-old Martin Deleon of Newark, California, lost control of the vehicle. Police authorities say the SUV veered left across the center grass median, which divides the freeway’s southbound and northbound lanes. The SUV was then struck head-on by a southbound 2000 Ford Mustang, operated by 21 year-old Ricardo Romero-Robles of Tulare County. The force of the head-on collision pushed the Mustang into the rightmost lane of southbound Highway 99. The Mustang crashed into a 2002 Chevy Tahoe truck, driven by a 39 year-old Visalia man. The Mustang rolled over and came to rest at the railroad tracks.

The crash killed the driver of the Mustang and his two passengers. Merced County paramedics pronounced the three victims dead at the accident scene. The two passengers were 26 year-old Gabino Romero-Robles and 12 year-old Christopher Mata, both of Orosi. The truck carried five occupants, including the driver. Three of the occupants were injured as a result of the truck wreck. The driver of the truck and his 8 year-old passenger suffered minor injuries. A 12 year-old passenger was taken to Mercy Medical Center Merced by Merced County emergency medical services (EMS) crew for treatment of moderate injuries. Deleon, the driver of the SUV, was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major injuries by doctors and nurses. Police officials indicate alcohol to be a factor in the three-vehicle wreck.
