Florida firm cooperates with recall of Black & Decker coffee makers with injury risk.
West Palm Beach, FL(JusticeNewsFlash.com – Florida product injury lawyer News)–Federal regulators with the CPSC and Applica Consumer Products, Inc. have issued a recall of approximately 584,000 Black & Decker coffee makers on June 23, 2009. Applica Consumer Products, Inc. is a firm based out of Miramar, Florida. The Black & Decker Spacemaker Coffeemakers were recalled after discovering hot water overflows when the brew basket moves out of alignment, posing a burn hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov was created through the Consumer Product Safety Act. The CPSC is responsible for protecting consumers from injuries related to consumer products.
The following model numbers are under federal recall:

– ODC440B
– ODC450
– ODC460
The recalled coffee makers are equipped with a removable water reservoir, programmable digital clock/timer, under-cabinet mount, and either an 8-cup thermal carafe or a 12-cup glass carafe. The recalled products were made in China and retailed for about $60 to $70 from March 2006 to March 2009. They could be purchased at major retailers such as: Amazon.com, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Wal-Mart, Target, Kohl’s, and K-Mart.
There have been 235 reported incidents of hot water overflowing, 10 were injuries of second-degree burns. The Broward County firm urges consumers to stop using the product. Consumers may contact Applica for a replacement brew basket.
