Seattle Barista Blade high risk for laceration injury causes federal recall.

Seattle, WA(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–Federal regulators and Starbuck’s Coffee Co., issued a recall of approximately 530,000 Starbucks Barista Blade Grinders and Seattle’s Best Coffee Blade Grinders on June 16, 2009. Starbucks Coffee Co. is a firm based out of Seattle, Washington. The reason for the federal recall is the potential laceration hazard when using the recalled product. The coffee grinder can turn on by itself out of the blue or fail to shut off properly. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov was created through the Consumer Product Safety Act. The CPSC is responsible for protecting consumers from injuries related to consumer products.

The following products are under federal recall:

– Starbucks Barista Blade Grinder in the following colors and SKU numbers: Stainless Steel (171884), Green (195234), Pink (195235), Orange (220623), Teal (220624), Cranberry (242275), Olive (344476), and Black (454482)

– Seattle’s Best Coffee Blade Grinder in Brown Metallic with SKU number 474881

The recalled coffee grinders were made in China by Tsann Kuen (Zhangzhou) Enterprise Co. Ltd. The grinders retailed for approximately $30. The recalled items were sold between March 2002 and March 2009 in Starbucks stores and Seattle’s Best Coffee stores. 176 incidents of grinders turning on unexpectedly or failing to shut off have been reported. This includes three incidents of hand lacerations caused by the grinder turning on when the consumer was cleaning it.

The King County firm urges consumers to stop using the recalled grinders. Consumers can contact Starbucks for a replacement. Questions may be directed to Starbucks at 866-276-2950 or at www.starbucks.com. Other incidents and injuries can be reported to the CPSC at www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/incident.aspx. Consumers who have been injured as a result of the recalled grinders may be entitled to compensation for their damages. Contact a Washington product liability lawyer for assistance.
